Griffin-Spalding County Mentor Program

The Griffin-Spalding County School System Mentor Progam began in 2012 through the combined efforts and generous contributions of the Griffin-Spalding Chamber of Commerce, the Griffin Housing Authority and the Griffin-Spalding County School System.  The program is a school-based initiative designed to pair a responsible, caring adult with a child who would benefit from a positive role model in their lives.

Mentors act as listeners and positive role models.  According to research, children who are mentored have increased school attendance, a better attitude toward school, less substance abuse, and a greater likelihood of graduating from high school. Mentors meet with their mentees in the child’s school during the school day for one hour each week.  The program requires a one-year commitment, but mentor-mentees are encouraged to continue beyond the first year.

Adults who are interested in mentoring in the Griffin-Spalding County School System should contact Kathy Rhodes, Program Coordinator, at 404-316-2704 or via email: Email Kathy Rhodes.  All Griffin-Spalding County School System mentors must be trained and vetted through the GSCMentor Program.  Requirements include: completing the application at GSCMentor Program Website, successful completion of a required mentor training session, and clearance through a background check and fingerprinting which is scheduled through the Griffin-Spalding County School System’s Human Resources Department.
