On May 2, thirteen Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) students participated in Georgia’s Future Educators Signing Day which is a state-wide initiative sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education. These students were celebrated today at a special signing ceremony at the Griffin Region College and Career Academy (GRCCA) for making the decision to pursue a career in education.

GSCS Early Childhood Education Instructor and District Teacher of the Year Shelley Worley was the guest speaker at the ceremony. She shared her story and what motivated her to become an educator. She encouraged the students and reiterated that great teachers make a lasting impact on students.

Career Technical Agricultural Education (CTAE) Director Dr. Laura Ergle stated, “What a great morning with phenomenal students!  The students shared their future goals and plans including becoming an entrepreneur and opening a daycare center, pursuing a career in elementary education, studying to be a school counselor and working as a paraprofessional or substitute while completing their education degree.  Most of these students have their college selected and are ready for a career in education! GSCS hopes to grow our own great teachers with the Early Childhood Education and Teaching as a Profession Programs, which are available for our high school students. We hope that today’s event will build excitement around the teaching profession and encourage students to pursue a career in education.”

Georgia Future Educators Signing Day is held each year during Teacher Appreciation Week and is sponsored by the Georgia Department of Education’s Division of Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education in partnership with the Georgia Early Childhood Education Foundation (GECEF) and Georgia’s colleges and universities.
