Business Rep with student and trophy

On May 12, an awards luncheon was held to recognize and celebrate Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) Work-Based Learning (WBL) students and business partners at the Griffin Region College and Career Academy (GRCCA). Attendees were treated with a lunch prepared by Spalding High School culinary students and awards were presented for Business Partner of the Year, Youth Apprenticeship Student of the Year and WBL Student of the Year.

Business Partner of the Year was awarded to Iris City Chiropractic and Kizzy Kakes. Youth Apprenticeship Students of the Year included Griffin High Senior Jennifer Molina with Atlanta Aerospace and Griffin High Senior Megan Pitts with Claxton-Hobbs Pharmacy. WBL Students of the Year included Griffin High Senior Jordan Silas with GSCS Communications Department and Griffin High Senior Madison Pitts with Iris City Chiropractic.

The GSCS Work-Based Learning and Youth Apprenticeship Program is an education option that prepares high school students for the world of work through a combination of academic and workplace learning. Through WBL experiences, students merge theory with practical work experience in jobs with local business partners.

GSCS WBL Coordinator Audrey Fuller stated, “The Work-Based Learning program would not be possible without the support of our local business partners in the Griffin-Spalding County area. These businesses act as mentors, helping to train students with critical skills needed to be successful in the world of work. Thank you to our current business partners for their investment in our students and the community. For information on how to become a Business Partner, please email me at audrey.fuller@gscs.org.”
