communications team with certificates

The Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS) Communications Department was awarded three Gold Awards of Excellence and two Bronze Awards of Excellence in the Georgia School Public Relations Association (GSPRA) Annual Publications, Photography and Electronic Media Contest.

The annual GSPRA contest acknowledges school public relations professionals who have demonstrated exceptional communication skills by producing outstanding publications, photography, and electronic media. Publications are judged on design, skill and meeting the overall PR goals and objectives.

A Gold Award of Excellence, which is the highest honor, was awarded for the GSCS 2024-25 School Calendar which is mailed out to all parents/guardians before the beginning of the school year.

In the newsletter/newspaper/magazine category, the district’s quarterly e-newsletter, The GSCS Community Communicator received a gold award. The goal of the Community Communicator is to inform the community of timely information, highlight school and district accomplishments, recognize our students and staff and increase community engagement.

In the special events category, the 2023-24 GSCS Real Men Read event was awarded gold. The Real Men Read event began as a district-one initiative of Board Member R. Syntel Brown and grew into an annual district-wide literacy event. Over 100 men, representing over 40 businesses, organizations and churches, from the community, volunteered and read books at all 11 GSCS elementary schools. The event strives to show all elementary students the importance of reading but also expose them to positive male role models. The event allows the district to build relationships with our community partners and provides a positive experience for all.

GSCS Communications received a Bronze Award of Excellence for GSCS Day One in the District which is an initiative that invites community partners, volunteers, stakeholders and elected officials to welcome back students, parents and staff on the first day of the school year.

In the social media category, GSCS Love is in the Air Staff Couple Feature was awarded a bronze award. This social media campaign is done leading up to Valentine’s Day and features district staff married to other district staff members. The goal of this campaign is to share positive content to build employee and community morale. Everyone loves a good love story!

GSCS Superintendent Dr. Keith Simmons stated, "Winning five state-wide awards is an outstanding accomplishment for our communications department. I am proud of them and those they collaborated with to prepare award-winning content to share with our community. I am pleased that GSPRA saw the value of the work being done here in Griffin-Spalding."

The GSPRA contest was judged by the members of the North Carolina School Public Relations Association (NCSPRA).
