GSCS Director of Teaching and Learning Dr. Audrey Greer stated, “Our district’s key initiative is to ensure students read, write, speak and solve in every classroom every day. This year, GSCS implemented the new Georgia K-12 math standards and we are seeing great results. Our students' hard work and academic excellence is evident not only in the classrooms but beyond.”

The math contest includes a one-hour written test followed by a group-ciphering event. According to Griffin RESA Executive Director Dr. Stephanie Gordy, awards for the top three teams in each division are based on a total team score comprised of the top four highest scores on the written test and the team score on the ciphering event. Competitive divisions are determined by school enrollment.

The Griffin RESA Middle School Math Contest is a regional competition among middle schools in the Griffin RESA region which consists of the following school systems: Butts, Fayette, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding and Upson.
