Another action-packed year of high school sports has already started here in the Griffin-Spalding County School System (GSCS). Griffin High School and Spalding High School are thrilled to invite the community to be a part of the excitement. GSCS wants the community to cheer on our teams at upcoming events, including the annual Griffin-Spalding football game this Saturday, September 30, at 2 p.m. at Memorial Stadium. Tickets for the game are available at gofan.co/event/1001345.
Limited tailgating spots in front of the Student Services Center on the Central Office campus will also be open starting at 10 a.m. on Saturday. This is a school event, so please remember that alcohol, tobacco, weapons, food trucks and catering are not allowed. As proud members of the Georgia High School Association (GHSA), both Griffin High and Spalding High believe that sports are not just about winning or losing; they’re about fostering character, teamwork and sportsmanship. In this spirit, GSCS proudly adheres to the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and GHSA sportsmanship statements. These principles guide our athletes, coaches and spectators in creating a positive and inclusive atmosphere at our games.
As sportsmanship is the cornerstone of the high school athletic experience, GSCS encourages all spectators to:
- Show Respect - Respect the game, the players, coaches, officials and your fellow spectators. Let’s create a community atmosphere of positivity and support for all.
- Stay Positive – Cheer for your team but avoid negative comments or behavior. Sports are meant to be enjoyable for everyone.
- Know the Rules – Understanding the difference in high school, recreation, college and professional rules can help build appreciation for the game and reduce misunderstandings or disputes.
- Honor the Traditions – Our community is blessed with two high schools with unique traditions of success. Embrace these rich traditions that the students of today and tomorrow are continuing and always be a role model for our current student-athletes.
GSCS hopes you’ll be a part of this atmosphere of healthy competition by attending the Griffin-Spalding football game this Saturday or any of the ongoing football, softball, cross country, volleyball, cheerleading or flag football events happening in our community on a daily basis.

GSCS District Athletic Director Bill Stikes stated, "Join us for the thrills, excitement and joy of prep sports. Supporting our student-athletes helps boost their morale and strengthens our community bond. We can’t wait to see you in the stands, cheering for the Griffin Bears or Spalding Jaguars as they aim for excellence on and off the field. Let’s come together, cheer for our teams and most importantly showcase Griffin’s sportsmanship in action. Remember, in Griffin-Spalding County we play with pride, passion and above all else – sportsmanship! See you at the games!"
