The Atkinson Elementary Parent Academy is a program provided by the ACES Club of Sun City Peachtree. This group provides mentorship, support for both parents and other enrichment for the students of Atkinson Elementary. The ACES mentor provided an end-of-the-year Tea Party for the young ladies and a pizza party for the young men. Thank you ACES Club of Sun City, Aces Club President Doris Redfern, Parent Academy program coordinator Chandra Ponder and Conversation Starters Bookstore at Heron Bay (for providing books for the students). This was a great day at Atkinson!

A signing ceremony was held today for Griffin High School Seniors Jahlani Harris and Jonathan Lopez who signed their contracts to begin their employment with Caterpillar Inc.
This year GSCS collaborated with Caterpillar Inc. on a pilot program, Train, Learn, Grow. GRCCA worked with SCTC and Caterpillar to support manufacturing students in gaining valuable internship experiences at Caterpillar. Caterpillar opened its doors to two motivated and ambitious students, Jahlani and Jonathan, from GRCCA.
These students were able to work in multiple areas based on their dual enrollment experience with GRCCA in partnership with SCTC Instructor Don Rogers. The experience was successful for both Caterpillar and the students. Caterpillar hired both students to start working full-time this summer.
Caterpillar is excited to offer five students with this opportunity next year.
A number of Caterpillar executives attended the ceremony, including Jahlani and Jonathan’s mentors Eric Kersey and John Sunil.
Attendees included:
Griffin Mayor Doug Hollberg
Representatives Beth Camp and Karen Mathiak
Griffin Spalding Development Authority Executive Director David Luckie
SCTC President Dr. Irvin Clark

This morning GSCS IT detected attempted suspicious activity from accounts outside our network. As a preventative precaution, the IT department has reset all student passwords. School Administrators will work with teachers to make students aware of their new passwords. This may impact software applications such as SAVAS, I-Ready, Edgenuity and HMH (today only). No data has been accessed. The GSCS network has not been compromised. This is a preventative measure. All staff accounts are secured via two-factor authentication and do not require a password reset. The safety measures put in place by GSCS IT in the past year helped to minimize this type of outside activity.
Thank you,

GSCS CTAE had an Educator Singing Day where eight Teaching as a Profession students committed to careers in education. GSCS offered these students a pre-contract to come back to GSCS after they graduate college. They also received a scholarship for two free classes at either Southern Crescent Technical College or a University. We are so proud of these students!
